John Mike Dolan

John Michael "Mike" Dolan, 59, of Quincy, died Sunday (Dec. 21, 2014) in his home in Quincy.

He was born April 4, 1955, in Quincy, to John Cyril Dolan and Ruth Carmelita Schmitz Dolan of Mendon.

Mike grew up near South Park Terrace in Quincy until 1959, when the family moved to Galesburg. He attended schools there, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1973. He later attended Carl Sandburg College off and on, majoring in agriculture management.

Mike worked as a small-engine mechanic and at Galesburg Volkswagen Inc. during high school. He worked at Protexall repairing industrial sewing machines and then Gates Rubber Co. for more than 10 years until the economy caused layoffs. He moved to Texas with a friend from Gates, building and repairing feed lot automated equipment for Micro-Chemical Co.

On Mother's Day 1983, he moved to Ewing, Mo., to live with his mother and stepfather, John Krietemeyer, while he looked for work and to start a new life. He met his fiancee, Nancy Jo Allison, on June 4, 1983, through his grandmother and godmother, Stella Schmitz.

Nancy and Mike were united in marriage in an ice storm by candlelight Dec. 3, 1983.

He was hired by Huck Fixture Co. in Quincy in fall 1983 and was employed there until 1995. He became a self-employed carpenter-contractor until his health became poor, then did security and insurance work before handling logistics and office tasks for his cousin Greg Sharpe's Pioneer Seed business.

He was a Missouri Knights of Columbus member of Ewing Council 7296 from 1992 until his death, serving terms as grand knight and financial secretary. He became a 4th degree knight of John F. Kennedy Assembly 1446, moving into offices of faithful comptroller and faithful navigator. He was later appointed district deputy No. 29 of six councils in Northeast Missouri.

He is survives by his wife, Nancy, of Quincy; a daughter, Elizabeth (Derrick) Voyles of Columbia, Mo.; a son, Thomas Dolan of LaBelle, Mo., from a previous marriage to Virginia Lee of Galesburg; grandchildren, Ashley Kincaid, Stephanie Dolan and John Paul Voyles; stepfather, John Krietemeyer; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
