Martha Sandoval (Guzman)

November 14, 1955 ~ March 16, 2022 (age 66)

Mrs. Martha Joy Guzman, 66, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away unexpectedly at 12:15 am Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

Martha was born November 14, 1955, in Galesburg, the daughter of Joseph and Frances (Mejia) Sandoval. She married Jesus Alfonso Guzman on May 3, 1976, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg.

She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Jesus of Galesburg; her children, Jesse A. Guzman of Champaign, Illinois, Jennifer J. Wilson and Marsha F. Guzman both of Galesburg; her two brothers, Joseph and Phillip Sandoval both of Galesburg; and three grandchildren, Vincent and Leo Wilson and Maddox Guzman. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, John Sandoval.

Martha graduated from Galesburg High School in 1974 and later attended Carl Sandburg College. After marrying, she worked for a short time at Willis Steele as a typist and receptionist. Later in life, once her children were grown, Martha decided to venture back into the workforce. She worked for Galesburg High School in the attendance office. At Rosewood Care Center, she spent 20 years working as receptionist/data entry before being able to join her husband to enjoy retirement together.

Martha loved and cared for her family above all else. She was close with and loved her brothers and nephews very much. As her parents were ailing in later life, without hesitation, she provided full time care so that they could remain in the home they loved, all while she raised her small children. Her husband was the love of her life. Over almost 46 years together, they had made a beautiful life together with so many memories to cherish. Martha was the best mother, her children were lucky to get to call her their mom. All of their life, she encouraged them to do the best and be the best people they could be and she was there to help them when life was too much. Without her, they would not be near the people they are today. Martha was happiest spending time with her grandchildren. Whether it was watching random YouTube videos, working on crosswords together or splashing water on them in the pool, you could see how precious they were in her eyes and how much she loved them. Martha was loved by so many and will be profoundly missed. Comfort can be taken that she is at God's side now and can watch over all those she loved.
